Higher-order breathers in nonlinear fiber optics

Complex breather solutions and dynamics of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation are experimentally generated by combining both intensity and phase spectral shaping of an initial optical frequency comb with subsequent nonlinear propagation in an optical fiber. Temporal and spectral profiles of the higher-order breathers are in agreement with the corresponding analytical solution.
