I will overview recent progress in studies of optical wave turbulence in fibre lasers focusing on the extreme waves occurrence. High amplitude extreme waves are also important in optical communication data streams, for instance, high peak-to-average-power ratio impacts orthogonal frequency division multiplexing signal transmission. Mechanisms of formation of such extreme waves in the information transmission will be discussed.
